Problems (No, not the song)

What really irks me is how lightly people make of other people's problems. How some people are so insensitive. These are the people that brush your problems aside and call it insignificant, just because your problems don't involve starvation or death. They tell you "don't complain!" and "be thankful for what you have!" and "there are other people having it worse than you are!

Seriously, fuck you.

I believe that everyone has their own problems big or small, but it is not for YOU to determine how relevent or significant they are. Take for instance, I dunno, a panda and a whale. A panda's problem is its diminishing supply of bamboos. Obviously the problem of not having enough bamboos is insignificant to a whale, who doesn't care jack shit about bamboos (probably doesn't even know bamboos exists) (no shit sherlock), so who is the whale to judge and deem the panda's problem as insignificant? Should the whale tell the panda to be grateful that at least he still has bamboos, or to suck it up because a sea urchin somewhere out there has it worse? HOW THE FUCK DOES THE SEA URCHIN'S PROBLEM GONNA MAKE THE PANDA'S PROBLEM SEEM ANY LESS IMPORTANT?? Their problems are not even related and they're world's apart, SO HOW CAN YOU EVEN COMPARE THE TWO PROBLEMS?

Ok fine. The panda, whale and sea urchin might be a bad metaphor, but I hope you get where I'm going. Different people have different problems, and it is not up to you to belittle their problems just because other people have it way worse. One person's problem might not seem important to another, but it could mean a lot to that person alone. If someone confides in you their problems, nobody wants to hear "be more appreciative of what you have" or "other kids have it worse". NO. If anything, it makes things even more shittier, because we already know that other people DO have life threatening problems but we just can't help but feel so conflicted about something of, I personally feel, lesser importance.

Seriously, shame on you, if you've ever done that to anyone. Even if you feel like your friend's problem is really stupid, the best you could do is fucking give support la. We're not telling you our problems so you can make us feel even worse about it. It might not seem important to you, but it could be everything to us.

Also read a quote somewhere and it goes something like this:

"Telling someone they can't be sad because others have it worse is like saying someone can't be happy because others have it better."

Rant over.
